Politics - Pine Rivers 2024 (now cancelled)

Having run for the electorate of Pine Rivers in 2020, was keen to have another attempt at becoming the representative of the people in this seat in the Queensland Parliament in 2024 (election day being 26 October) BUT has now had to pullout due to family responsibilities.  He would strongly encourage anyone who has similar views to take up his ideas as outlined in these pages and put themselves forward as a candidate.

The key issue that originally lead Bruce down this path of electoral candidacy is that our model of democracy - the very meaning of the word being "rule by the people" - is only a very watered-down version of that ideal where, apart from election days, the people have very little real power or real say in how the state is run.  To use an analogy, our current system is like a business owner (in this case, the people being the owner), employing a manager for their business (the manager being the politicians) via a contract which in effect says, "This business is yours to run for the next four years.  While we have employed you on the basis of how you told us you would do things, the contract makes no demand on you to do so and we deliberately rule ourselves out from overruling you in spite of the fact that it is our business and not yours".

{Perhaps another useful analogy to consider is the case of unit / townhouse complexes.  These generally elect a committee every year and the committee makes day-to-day decisions about the running of the complex and proposes budgets etc.  However, it is also written into legislation that for anything but the most minor decisions, a majority of the owners of the complex can notify the committee that they object to the decision, and by law, the committee cannot implement it.  In our system of government, we, the people, are like the owners in the complex and the politicians are like the committee.  However, at present, the people have no means of overruling the politicians if they feel the need}.
