Minority Report?

Had a moment of insight a few days ago when considering the feelings of a small minority group in society consisting of a little under 0.02% of the Australian population.

For such a small percentage, it is easy to see how any of their concerns can quite easily be ignored as they are almost invisible in the broader population and they themselves would feel this "invisibility".  However, when their total numbers are considered, given an Australian population of around 26,500,000, their number would be around 5,000 people - quite a large crowd if all put together in one place.

When considered in this way, it should give us pause to consider their feelings and needs very carefully even while the low percentage may well quite validly mean that their situation cannot be used to overly influence policies and viewpoints from the wider community.
