Pine Rivers Legislative Council

To ensure that the views of all constituents are accounted for in the best possible manner, and not just those of a small but vocal minority, Bruce proposes the following system:

1. The elected member should hold regular community meetings to discuss issues with constituents, but in particular, will invite the other candidates who stood in the election, to join in these discussions and present their views. These meetings and this group could be known as the Pine Rivers Legislative Council.
2. After the meeting, constituents will be invited to "cast their vote" on the issue at hand (mostly Bills before parliament) via the vote gathering system previously mentioned.
3. The final view of all the other election candidates will also be received and they will be allocated a number of votes based on the percentage of first preference votes they received at the election. See here for links to political parties who may end up being relevant to the Pine Rivers Legislative Council.
4. The amount of votes allocated will be the above percentage of the enrolled constituents who have not indicated their vote individually. For example, if the electorate contains 41000 eligible voters and 2000 have provided their individual views on the topic at hand, and a candidate received 30% of the valid first preference votes in the election, they would be allocated 30% of 39,000 votes (which would be 11700 votes).
5. Using the individual For / Against numbers provided and the For / Against numbers allocated to the candidates as in step 4, the total number of For and Against votes will be determined and the issue settled in accordance with the highest For or Against count.
6. This will be the decision that the elected member carries into the parliament.
